Our Club Standards

The Kanawaki golf club is a very special place where the notions of courtesy and respect are part of the basic principle that characterize the quality of its membership. The following rules are made to maximize the enjoyment of a round or simply your time spent at the Kanawaki Golf Club. We ask all members to follow and respect these rules. Failure to do so could bring a proper reprimand or a visit in front of the disciplinary committee on a case by case basis. Please report any breaches to the general manager, the captain or the pro shop who will take the proper steps to make sure that members have the best golf experience possible. Members should not confront other members, guests or employees.

Members are responsible for their day members (Guests) following the rules.
Members should obtain proper authorization from the Proshop or the starter before starting a round at a hole other than the 1st hole.
Juniors, whether they are members or day members (Guests), are not allowed to drive electric carts.

Dress Code

It is the members’ responsibility to inform their guests of the Kanawaki dress code and other rules, prior to visiting the Club, and to see that they are adhered to them. All golfing guests must be registered at the pro shop.

General: Only golf related logos are accepted on clothing and headwear. All caps on property are to be worn with “bill forward”. Only soft spikes and spikeless golf shoes are permitted. Tank Tops, halter tops, cropped tops, and tee shirts are not permitted. Blue jeans “denim” is not to be worn in or around the clubhouse or the golf course. They may only be worn walking directly from the parking lots to the locker rooms.

Ladies: Collared golf shirts with or without sleeves or collarless golf shirts with sleeves are permitted. Golf skirts, dresses and tailored shorts must be at a minimum mid-thigh length. Leggings are permitted, provided they are worn with a skirt, a dress or shorts. Open toe sandals are not permitted.

Men: Traditional collared golf shirts, mock necks “minimum 1 inch” and blade collared polos are accepted. All golf shirts must always be neatly tucked in. Bermuda length shorts or golf pants are required. Cargo, fitness, athletic attire, and/or any bottoms with an elastic waist or draw sting are not permitted. When wearing Bermuda shorts, only sockettes or knee socks are allowed. Open toe sandals are not permitted.

The dress code is suspended and inoperative while members or guests are walking directly to and from the parking lots and the locker rooms.

We trust that you understand this Dress Code and will respect it. It is deemed inappropriate for any member to enforce the dress code directly with another member or guest. Any concern or questions about compliance with the dress code, including whether or not a given article of clothing is acceptable attire, should be reported to the Club Manager or, in his absence, the Club Professional or, in his absence, one of his assistants. They will act as the final arbiter regarding any dress code issue.

Smoking Policy

Smoking of any kind is prohibited anywhere in the clubhouse, under covered areas of the verandah and on the lower patio.

Smoking is strictly restricted to the two following areas (from the perspective of the 18th green): the uncovered portion of the deck on the extreme right and the area right of that, between the deck and first tee, with the firepits and Adirondack chairs.

Cannabis Policy

The use of cannabis is strictly prohibited at all times on the club property.

Cellular Phone & Device Policy

Talking on a cellular phone and checking voicemail are only permitted in the club’s parking areas and in the immediate vicinity of the club’s public phones (with the exception of the club room).

Tablets, computers and non-verbal functionalities of cellular phones are permitted throughout the club’s property as long as the pace of play and social atmosphere are respected.

Cellular phones must always be kept on silent or vibrate mode.

Course Etiquette

It is imperative that all members take very good care of the course and respect other members using the facilities in the following manner:

  • Raking Bunkers properly at all times.
  • Replacing Divots on Fairways, Roughs and Tees at all times and using seed mix as a last resort.
  • Repairing Ball marks at all times.
  • No pull carts, on greens, tees and between greens and greenside bunkers at all times.
  • Keeping all 4 wheels of electric carts on cart paths where available.
  • Keeping electric carts on cart paths in tee and green areas at all times.
  • Electric carts stay on cart paths on all par 3’s at all times.
  • Respect cart signs to keep an acceptable distance from the greens.
  • Electric carts are designed for a maximum of 2 persons. Nobody should be standing on the back of an electric cart, including players, spectators and caddies.
  • Juniors are not permitted to drive electric carts.
  • Care should be taken not to damage cups when removing and replacing flags or taking a ball out of the cups (Do not use a club or putter to take a ball out of a cup unless properly equipped with a suction cup).
  • No talking on the cellular phone during the round, nor listening to music on any other electronic device.

Speed Of Play

No more than 4 hours for a foursome.

You must maintain pace with the group ahead of you.

Follow golfer’s etiquette to let faster players pass if possible.

Commencement Of Play

At Kanawaki, the orderly play of golf commences at and departs only from the first tee. The Match and Handicap Committee authorizes the Starter to grant permission, to Ladies and or Gentlemen of Kanawaki requesting such permission, to commence play from another tee if, in his opinion, such departure will not interfere with the orderly play of golf traditional to Kanawaki Golf Club. The Ladies and Gentlemen of Kanawaki appreciate that their Club has several tees favorably located for such informal commencement. The Ladies and Gentlemen of Kanawaki use this advantage only when authorized.

Practicing On Course

Practicing on the course is not permitted at any time. As a single player, playing two balls is not considered practicing if playing conditions allow, but pace of play must be maintained.

Competition Play Etiquette

Members must enter, for handicap purposes, all games played at Kanawaki and other golf courses following scoring rules as posted.

Members who register for a competition must respect their engagement and play during the established dates.

Tee times must be respected the day of the competition.

All competitions are played under the rules set by Golf Canada (see below).

You must follow the rules that apply that particular day and of each competition.

All decisions for challenges on rules are rendered by the Match and Handicap committee (the Captain, the Club’s Professional and/or a Certified rules official authorized by the Match and Handicap committee).

Early Morning Play

Anyone playing before 7:30 AM must expect the crew to be on the course, and work will proceed without interruption.

SLOW PLAY:
At Kanawaki a four ball match should be played in 3 hours and 45 minutes. Faster groups should always be allowed to play through.
Flag System: the marshall will have three coloured flags which will be displayed from his cart.

Green:Everything is okay.
Yellow:You have fallen behind the group in front and you have twenty minutes to catch up to them.
Red:Pick up your ball and move to the next tee.

NOTE: The red flag should only be used in extreme circumstances. If the marshall sees that the group is gaining on the one in front but has not totally caught them, he should give them a little leeway but should continue to monitor them to make sure they get caught up eventually.
